Google is really ramping up content offerings for its subsidiary YouTube. Earlier this week we heard they were investing $100 million into celebrity channels and now we learn they’re in talks with NBA to broadcast sports shows.
Incumbent deal holders with the NBA, Disney and TNT, are half-way through their 8-year contracts. Google may be looking to out bid them for future rights to broadcast games live on the internet.
Google has already dipped its toes in the arena with its Indian Premier League cricket broadcasting that started last Spring. And for the Summer, YouTube will be broadcasting every Major League Baseball game of the next season in Japan.
